Inside, the restoration of many original architectural elements, such as the ceiling friezes in the Entrance Hall and the staircase leading to what was once the vault and is now the library, help to preserve the spirit of the 19th century all the while maintaining a modern Montreal hotel commitment to quality.

L’Hôtel XIX siècle is proud to be a part of that glorious Victorian past. Built in 1870 and designed by Michel Laurent, our building was originally the head office of the Montreal City and District Savings Bank. In 1945 the bank began renting office space and attracted many law firms, including that of Jean Drapeau – who would go on to become Montreal’s most beloved and controversial mayor for three decades, building the Metro system and Place des Arts and bringing the 1967 World Exposition and 1976 Olympic Games to Montreal.

After 3 and a half years of renovations, l’Hôtel XIXe siècle opened its doors in May 2001.
